As the name suggests Girlsdateforfree.com provides an online dating service that is free of charge for full membership for women. The means that the good old fashioned tradition of men picking up the tab is alive and well on this site and it obivously encourages more women to register and to be active participants on the site. The design is simple and straightforward and the site is pleasantly free of advertising of any kind. All you will see are profile thumbnails and dating site information. As you browse around the site random photos are displayed in order to present you with a selection of current and new members. Clicking on any of these takes you to the registration form and once completed you can dive in and learn more about these people. There’s a site tour you can view if you’re unsure about signing up and it describes all the the things you can do for free and all those available to women and to the men who subscribe. These include uploading videos and webcam dating and flirting, so it’s an interactive site with the latest features to keep you amused.

Flirtbox.com is a free dating site which is available to people in the UK and several countries abroad. The home page displays the current membership numbers and it would appear that in total there are over 500,000 members in eighteen countries. The ratio of men to women is about 2:1, so there’s a lot more men than women. You can browse galleries, profiles, and forums without registering but obviously to participate you need to sign up and complete a profile. Being a free dating site there’s a fair bit of advertising and some of that is for other dating sites. This can be a bit distracting but otherwise it’s a modern looking site. The box in the right of the picture shows what appears to be random usernames from any country in the network, or they could be those online at the time but this isn’t clear. This site would make a handy introduction to online dating but the advertising is a bit too invasive and the standards of photos on profiles leaves a lot to be desired.

Encounters Dating is the online dating part of the Times Online website. It has a slick and professional look and is of a higher standard that many of its rivals. The home page randomly displays thumbnails of current members and it’s clear from the photos that they’ve gone to the effort of uploading good, clear head and shoulders shots that show themselves in their best light. There are all kinds of search features but to use most of them you need to register. However, even as a guest you can search for some samples within up to 300 miles from your chose post code. The profiles are very detailed and allow members to specificy the level of importance for several of the answers. Voice recordings are also and option and members can upload private photos for viewing by selected members only if they want to add something more discrete. It’s an appealing site that would probably professional people.
